In waste treatment facilities especially, it is absolutely critical that hazardous gases produced within the plants are removed to ensure conditions are safe for those on site. The build-up of methane in particular can have potentially fatal implications if not addressed immediately, so a calculated arrangement of ventilation fans is essential to carefully eliminate possible dangers.
When maintenance is carried out in such hazardous surroundings, Personal Protective Equipment alone cannot guarantee the wellbeing of those working within them. Confined spaces pose a very prominent risk – particularly when high levels of toxic gas are present – but Andrews Ventilation are experienced in providing solutions that, when deployed, help create appropriate conditions.
In this instance, the coarse screen inlet room was the affected part, and this acts as a filter that prevents large non-soluble components from causing blockages. The remaining sewage – now more liquidised in form – then passes into a series of containers where operators are working. A permanent ventilation system is therefore imperative but an unexpected breakdown meant our client had to source an alternative from elsewhere.
Following emergency contact, we stationed ten FV300 ventilation fans around the problematic areas and these were able to remove methane from circulation and replace with large volumes of fresh air. Gas detection monitors were then used to confirm the effectiveness of our equipment, thus rendering the entire application safe for relevant tasks to continue.
