What is air change and how do I calculate it?
An air change is simply the number of times air enters and exits a particular area per hour. The air change rate can therefore be calculated by measuring the air flow volume added or removed from a space, divided by the volume of space itself.ย
For example: an engine room which is 3 metres high, 22 metres long and 8 metres wide requires ventilation due to the build-up of heat and fumes. By consulting the chart below, we know that the recommended air change is between 15 and 30 depending on the applicationโs intensity.
For argumentโs sake, weโll say this particular engineering facility is operating at full capacity โ thus requiring 30 changes per hour.
So 3m x 8m x 22m = 528mยณ x 30 changes = 15,840mยณ. Therefore, in this situation, a single FV900 unit would be perfect because it has a capacity of 16,500mยณ per hour.
