Planned Edinburgh hotel reopening salvaged by Andrews Boiler Hire

With enforced business closures during lockdown preventing many companies from trading, a major four-star hotel in Edinburgh took the opportunity to conduct routine maintenance while the building was unoccupied. Fortunately, a minor issue was detected at a time where no guests were present, and a registered engineer ascertained that the hotel’s boiler was condemned. The hotel was due to open at the weekend and was fully booked.

Following the assessment, the client called Andrews Boilers on the Thursday and asked us to provide a temporary boiler hire arrangement while the faulty unit was repaired. The urgency of the situation was communicated to our regional expert, with the customer desperate to source a replacement unit and have it on site as early as possible.

The location of the hotel – in a popular tourist area in the centre of the capital city – meant that we had to send two technicians to ensure that our 500kW boiler could be carefully lifted into the limited space available. Once in position, our engineers set to work connecting the unit by gas. This cost-saving measure was specifically requested by the management team and seen as essential due to a recent sharp fall in revenue.

It later transpired that the hotel was scheduled to become one of the first to reopen in Scotland, but this would not have been possible had there been no hot water supply. This potentially disastrous situation was averted courtesy of our engineers expertly carrying out a complex installation over a 24-hour period.

Unsurprisingly, the client was delighted with the decisive action of the team responsible for implementing this boiler hire solution. Thanks to Andrews, this high-end hotel was permitted to reopen as planned despite it seeming highly unlikely just a few days earlier!
