Farmer seeks heater arrangement to protect Christmas turkeys

Each year, approximately ten million turkeys are consumed in the UK during the festive period – underlining its everlasting popularity as a key ingredient of the traditional Christmas meal. But before these birds reach your dinner plates, or even the supermarket you buy them from, they are left to roost in closely-monitored barns ahead of dispatch to retailers.

With the 25th December rapidly approaching and seasonal demand for turkeys beginning to peak, Andrews Heat for Hire were contacted by a Worcester farmer who was struggling to maintain the required conditions within his storage applications.

In total, four large outhouses required heating equipment to ensure temperatures could be kept between 18°C and 21°C – crucial for the longevity of the turkeys themselves. Failure to create the desired environment would undoubtedly lead to deaths within the rafter and as a consequence cause consumer prices to rise.

Our solution was to propose a heater hire package comprising of four Aurora FH185 oil heaters, with one stationed outside each barn. Warm air was then driven into the targeted areas via lengths of ducting provided and our units remained operational around the clock to ensure the project was successful. The quick response of our local engineer and the effectiveness of our products afforded a concerned customer total peace of mind until the turkeys were distributed to wholesalers.
