Bringing Ventilation Excellence to a Shopping Centre: A Case Study
During a significant internal renovation at a shopping centre in Carmarthen, Wales, the team here at Andrews Sykes was enlisted to deliver crucial ventilation solutions. The project required complex extraction needs due to diesel fumes from breakers and dust suppression requirements.
In order to ensure ongoing construction activities, delivering adequate air supply and maintaining a safe working environment were paramount. Our mission was to deliver effective extraction and ventilation solutions to meet these critical demands using our Fast Vent ventilation system hire units.
What Challenges Did We Face?
The project presented several unique challenges that required careful planning and execution. One of the primary challenges was the extraction of diesel fumes generated by breakers, which necessitated the use of an Air Handling Unit (AHU) vent system to remove harmful pollutants through a negative pressure system.
Additionally, the work took place at height within the store, which complicated the installation and positioning of the ventilation equipment. Another challenge was dust suppression. The breaking and removal of concrete slabs produced substantial dust, which required a robust system to maintain acceptable air quality and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
How Did We Solve the Problem?
In order to address these challenges, we deployed a comprehensive Fast Vent ventilation solution tailored to the unique needs of the project:
X2 FV900 Units
These high-performance Fast Vent FV900 Units were strategically positioned in the centre of the work area. With their powerful extraction capabilities, they were crucial for removing diesel fumes and dust.
40m Ducting
Long ducting runs were used to extend the extraction capabilities to localised points where the construction work was taking place, including the breaking and removal of concrete slabs. This allowed the extraction system to handle fumes and dust directly at the source.
ASF950
Positioned near the roller shutter door, the mobile ASF950 provided essential fresh air changes into the work area. By introducing clear air and balancing the extraction process, this industrial high output unit worked to maintain optimal air quality.
Dust Collection Filter Bag
To manage dust suppression, we employed a dust collection filter bag which effectively captured and contained airborne dust to ensure the environment remained safe and complied with health and safety standards. Since this application, we have also now introduced higher output filtration units able to handle particles and vapours.
The Results
The implementation of our Fast Vent ventilation system hire enabled the customer to meet all necessary air change requirements, effectively controlling diesel emissions and dust generation. With our support, the client was able to continue their project without delay, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
The successful deployment of our systems not only satisfied the immediate needs of the project, but also provided long-term benefits in maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
