One of the country’s most prestigious universities was in the process of building a new ‘mega shed’ which was due to be used as a large library facility. Once completed, the university say the site will hold the equivalent of 18 Olympic swimming pools’ worth of books – underlining the application’s size!

As part of the construction process, various industrial equipment was utilised for concrete slab pouring which could have left an enclosed space polluted with carbon monoxide. This would have had serious health implications for those working on site if the issue was not addressed quickly, but our engineers were on hand quickly to ensure this problem was averted.

Exercising in a gymnasium can be hard work at the best of times, particularly in facilities that are not blessed with efficient cooling systems. Compound this with a lack of air conditioning and a sharp upturn in seasonal temperatures, and there’s every chance that those engaging in physical activity feel even less comfortable both during and after their workout. A Cumbrian high school recently reported that their indoor basketball courts and exercise areas were becoming unbearably hot for both staff and pupils. The school were extremely keen to ensure PE lessons continued per curriculum requirements, and recognised the importance of sourcing some cooling hire equipment.

School exam hall seeks comfort cooling arrangement

Examination periods are arguably the most stressful time for students and school pupils, so the last thing they need is an additional problem when sat at their desks. End-of-year assessments – including GCSEs and A-levels – typically commence in May and this often coincides with a seasonal upturn in the weather. So when a high-achieving secondary school in the Midlands encountered difficulty keeping their main examination hall cool in the build-up to a busy six-week period of tests, they contacted Andrews Ventilation Hire in search of a solution. The room was occupied by around 200 people when at full capacity, and there was an urgent requirement for us to implement a practical cooling system immediately because of the scale of potential for students to complain about being too hot.
