Sykes Pumps called into action following thunderstorms across southern England

Flash floods have caused chaos across Greater London, Kent and Essex on EU referendum day following heavy and prolonged rainfall overnight. The effects of the water have left at least two polling stations closed, while cars and properties have also become submerged after freak June weather struck in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The London Fire Brigade have already rescued more than 500 people, and that number is expected to rise further with local forecasters predicting more thundery downpours over the coming days.

Over the last few decades, we as a company have become accustomed to seeing our logo appear in various sporting contexts – from football shirts to rally car chassis. This coverage has typically been generated via sponsorship deals and commercial packages, but a Sykes Pumps employee has come up with a different way to increase our brand exposure!

Portsmouth-based Steve Henty, who works in Pump Hire and Sales, has been a keen stock rod driver for more than twenty-five years. Stock car racing is a form of automobile racing most prominently found in Canada and the United States, usually taking place on an oval-style track.

Sykes Pumps launch new Bentonite Pump range

As a company committed to expanding our hire fleet, Sykes Pumps are delighted to unveil a new range of specialist Bentonite pumps. Driven by popular customer demand, our technical team have developed two new models: the B150 and the B150E.

Manufactured specifically with the construction, utility and civil engineering sectors in mind, these bespoke innovations have been developed around our existing GP150M both in terms of specification and performance.

Available in two versions – B150 (diesel engine) and B150E (electric motor) – the Bentonite pump has been designed for projects where deep piling or excavation work is being carried out. Both models deploy a 60 cfm rotary vane vacuum which ensures automatic delivery of prime and re-prime whenever required.
