Heavy rain is not a problem for Sykes Pumps

Sykes Pumps recently executed a highly effective dewatering operation in Essex. The operation aimed to manage the rapid influx of groundwater into a lagoon after heavy rainfall. The location’s lagoon posed a significant challenge to the customer due to its tendency to accumulate substantial amounts of nuisance water during intense rainfalls. This rapid accumulation not only disrupted ongoing activities but also threatened the stability of the surrounding area. An immediate and effective water removal was necessary to maintain normal operations and prevent potential environmental issues.

Sykes Pumps provides over-pumping solution for local council

Sykes Pumps was recently approached by a major building and civil engineering company and asked to help assist with the repair of a local culvert.

Before work could take place, our engineers were required to provide an immediate pumping solution to over-pump the stream – cleaning out all the silt build-up and then removing old metal sheeting to allow the contractor to replace it with a new one.

Our response was to propose the hire of an 8” submersible alongside a smaller 6” submersible to catch excess water. We also provided a 60kVA generator and a separate fuel tank to enable quiet operation within a densely-populated neighbourhood.

Sykes Pumps Hire provide emergency pumps for Salmon Farm

Sykes Pumps Hire was recently approached by a salmon farm in the Lake District, with the client requiring a solution to prevent and monitor low water supply.

Our client is based near a Cumbrian reservoir that was highly affected by the 2018 summer heatwave, which subsequently caused the availability of water to almost completely dry up. Amazingly, water levels got so low that the ruins of a previously submerged village began to reappear following a massive depletion of water. The small town was deliberately allowed to flood approximately 80 years ago in order to create a reservoir to provide water for Manchester and the North West of England.

Sykes Pumps develop new environmentally friendly silt separation system

In the majority of cases, water pollution is caused by the presence and prolonged build-up of sediment, silt and other abrasives which puts mounting pressure on our clients to ensure discharged water is as silt free as it can be before being reintroduced to a natural watercourse.

Increasing requirements for companies to take their ecological obligations seriously has led to Sykes Pumps adding a new environmentally friendly product to our extensive hire fleet – the Sykes Silt Away.

By deploying a Silt Away unit on site, customers can be confident of avoiding substantial fines and adverse publicity, as well as suffering enforced closures. In recent months, a number of organisations have been hit with hefty financial penalties for not taking sufficient precautions – including a major housebuilder who was fined a six-figure amount for negligent practice.

Sykes Pumps cut emergency reaction times with new innovation

Sykes Pumps are delighted to introduce a new concept in emergency pumping by unveiling our revolutionary Rapid Response unit. The main feature of our latest innovation is its lightweight frame which allows it to be legally towed by vans and other medium sized vehicles.

The unit can be attached, delivered and set up by a single operative, simplifying the whole process between transportation and installation.

Sykes Pumps aid culvert repair in Lincolnshire

Following heavy rainfall in the north of England, a client contacted us seeking an emergency pump solution to facilitate the repair of a drainage tunnel that kept collapsing. Large volumes of storm water caused by torrential downpours were, therefore, unable to escape, meaning urgent action was required on our part.

The customer had outsourced a renewal development to an external company, but in order for them to be in a position to mend the damaged culvert, pumping equipment was needed on site. A nearby housing estate meant that any hire package would need to feature units capable of operating quietly, which is why we proposed the use of three Super Wispaset 200mm pumps.
