Andrews Sykes appoints new manager to spearhead German growth

We at Andrews Sykes are thrilled to be expanding into Germany – the next destination of our European evolution. As part of our plans, we have appointed Michael Piette as the new Business Development Manager to launch and grow our business in this promising and previously untouched market.

Though we may have only just opened our doors in Germany, we certainly aren’t hanging around, as evidenced by our recent boiler rental contract with a customer on the outskirts of Berlin – and not just any customer! At Andrews Sykes, we’re used to working alongside household names from multiple industries, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that a Center Parcs resort in Germany solicited our assistance.

What has happened in Europe this summer?

Netherlands
Quick response prevents server room overheating
When a chiller unexpectedly failed at a data centre on Neeltje Jans island, temperatures began to rise rapidly inside critical server rooms. Our team promptly arrived within 4 hours to evaluate the situation and supply an effective cooling hire package. The swift deployment of AC units helped stabilise the environment and averted disruption to regional lock management operations.

Customised cooling for historic gala venue
With extreme temperatures looming, advanced planning was critical to keep guests comfortable at a VIP political dinner in a historic lakefront château near Geneva. Given the site’s unique architecture and power constraints, a customised arrangement was required. Using extensive expertise designing bespoke temporary climate solutions, we strategically installed specialised rooftop fans to maintain continuous airflow throughout the prestigious event.

What happened in Europe this month? – Valentine’s Edition

Belgium

It’s the season of love, but we know that not everyone is a fan of Valentine’s Day. In some instances, self-care and personal growth must take priority. We’ve taken this somewhat literally in Belgium, with our progress in the region recently extending to opening a third depot in the country.

Our new property in Kortrijk gives us a wonderful platform from which to serve customers in the west of Belgium – as well as northern France – and we’re very confident that we’ll be able to make defining connections with a number of customers based in this expansive region. Love at first sight, or love at first site?

What’s been happening in Europe this month?

UK

We knew last month had been a good one, but it has since come to light that it was our best December on record from a revenue perspective! Britain experienced snowfall, ice and bitter temperatures – and it’s fair to say our clients were cold. Although we didn’t have a choice in the weather, our loyal customers chose us to provide temporary heating units. We’ve always made it our target to provide a high level of service and deliver during sleet, snow, or shine, and that’s exactly what we did!

Italy

In Italy, our colleagues at Nolo Climat have finally let one of our newest players off the bench to make their debut. We are of course referring to our new submersible pumps, and it is with great delight that we announce that some of these are now out on hire! Quite fittingly, a sporting association needed to move water from one pond to another, prompting an enquiry and our first official pump order.

Italy

Our Italian branch, Nolo Climat, has been showing its passion for fashion by maintaining momentum from their work at the Milan fashion week in September. Our specialists in Italy proposed a heating solution for an exclusive footwear brand’s showroom, in one of the most exclusive locations in Milan. After a thorough inspection of the building, our FH185 DV models were identified as the optimal heating solution for the showroom and surrounding spaces. Four heaters will remain on site until December, along with diesel tanks that are equipped with a remote level management system that allows fuel levels to be viewed through a mobile app.

Russell Brookes set to finally claim silver tulip accolade

This week, rally fans are closely following the 64th edition of the Tulpenrallye which concludes on Saturday 13 May. But for one man in particular, the event – held in the Netherlands – will be a markedly nostalgic occasion.

Thirty-nine years ago, Russell Brookes and co-driver Peter Bryant negotiated their way around the 800-mile track to score an outright victory in an Andrews Heat for Hire sponsored Ford Escort RS 1800.

The ‘Gulf Tulip Rally’ was aptly named because the annual winner was presented with a trio of silver tulips, as opposed to a more conventional trophy.

Andrews Sykes’ English employees take on European co-workers in annual football match

On Saturday 14th May, an Andrews Sykes “European” team descended upon The Valley where they faced their British colleagues in what has become a traditional footballing encounter between members of staff.

The visitors’ squad comprised of Dutch, Italian and French participants while players for the hosts were flown in from as far afield as Glasgow! Boasting a former professional among their ranks, the home side were confident of a victory that has frustratingly eluded them ever since the first encounter took place in 2013.

Andrews comes to the Netherlands: a brief look back

When Andrews Sykes sponsored the Wolverhampton Wanderers versus Charlton Athletic match at Molineux in January, company founder John Andrews was present along with a number of longstanding employees. The event offered a good opportunity for staff members past and present to discuss the business’ growth and reminisce, with the conversation eventually turning to our overseas operations.

In 1971, we opened our first depot abroad in the Netherlands – in a town called Bleiswijk, close to Rotterdam – and this was arguably the catalyst for further growth throughout much of the continent and beyond.
