At Sykes Pumps, we take pride in our ability to overcome challenges and provide innovative solutions for our clients. Recently, in Macclesfield, North Cheshire, we undertook a challenging project for the local council.

They required a new headwall to be installed on a concrete culvert, necessitating the removal of water from site to create a suitable base for the structure. Thanks to our expertise and the strategic planning process of our sales engineers, we devised an efficient and effective solution to tackle this demanding task.

Our Product of the Month for May is the ever-popular PX12 submersible drainer – a pump that is consistently required all year round and largely unaffected by seasonal changes!

In fact, given that they are designed to address excessive water accumulation, we often find the increased risk of flooding often associated with this time of year means our PX12s are highly utilised!

These pumps are designed to tackle general dewatering applications and are seen as the perfect solution for moving nuisance water in a range of environments including construction, utilities, mines and quarries, shipyards, docks, and industrial sites.

In Italy, our colleagues at Nolo Climat have finally let one of our newest players off the bench to make their debut. We are of course referring to our new submersible pumps, and it is with great delight that we announce that some of these are now out on hire! Quite fittingly, a sporting association needed to move water from one pond to another, prompting an enquiry and our first official pump order.

Civil engineers require pumping solution to lower water table

The development of an 84-acre plot of land on the outskirts of Cardiff was threatened by lengthy delays due to the area’s high water table, promoting the civil engineering company responsible for the project to contact us.

And although excessive groundwater was undoubtedly the primary issue, there were further complications caused by the fact that there were no outlets available nearby for us to responsibly discharge water removed from site.

It goes without saying that a high water table can be extremely inhibiting for building developers, as the flow of any groundwater beneath the surface can affect the strength and compressibility of soil, and thus impact its ability to support structural loads. That’s why any sub-surface investigation needs to be thorough and will generally involve the removal of nuisance water.
