Low temperatures, low GWP: introducing our new Fast Chill units!

We pride ourselves on bringing new products to market – we always have done – and there’s always a rationale behind each launch. Sometimes we act on customer feedback, sometimes we want to pre-empt environmental legislation, and sometimes we simply look to make a popular existing product even better.

For many years, our specialist Fast Chill range has been the envy of the industry while at the same time being highly sought-after by clients in specific market sectors.

Each unit is robust, dependable, safe, economical, and can bring temperatures down to as low as -10⁰C. In fact, our Fast Chill units are the perfect solution for cold storage areas, food and beverage manufacturing processes. How, then, could we improve them?

Drinks manufacturer hires chiller to uphold production targets

Our colleagues in France recently received an urgent enquiry from a drinks company following a cooling failure at their premises located near Lille.

As a modern facility, the client’s factory had compact cooling units dedicated to different production lines as opposed to a single refrigeration system for the entire plant. This meant that any breakdown or fault would be easy to identify and negate a potential need to replace the whole cooling duty should something go wrong.

An issue with a compressor prompted the customer to contact our regional experts, who were informed that it was costing tens of thousands of euros for each hour the machinery was out of commission. Following a brief telephone conversation in which the root cause of the problem was explained, the installation of a 200kW replacement chiller was immediately suggested.

How do chillers work and which unit is best for me?

Finding a temporary cooling solution can be a daunting challenge, particularly if your requirement is of an urgent nature. With this in mind, the team at Andrews Chillers have created a short video that explains the functionality of chillers and how to guarantee the perfect outcome for your cooling application.

Using sample scenarios, the animation demonstrates the specific process that a unit goes through to provide the cooling for your requirement.

The aim of the video is to give our customers a better understanding of the chiller units we offer and explain how they apply to different environments. The video shows how you can overcome your cooling challenges while discussing the various types of cooling. These include comfort cooling, high capacity cooling and process cooling.

With comfort cooling in particular, it is important to understand that this type of cooling is used to regulate the temperature and create a comfortable environment for people within a specific area. This type of chiller is normally used in hospitals and hotels in addition to offices and conference rooms. These sectors require an accurate temperature control as a system failure can directly influence the satisfaction of building occupants.

Former Ford factory converted into temporary hospital

At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, a 1950s industrial unit and former car factory in South Wales was transformed into a field hospital as part of a countrywide effort to overcome the virus. The 11,000 square metre site is now a renowned film studio and has undergone a drastic overhaul thanks to Swansea City Council’s collaborative work with various contractors.

Creating space for more than 1,300 beds over a two-phase project, the hospital is now fully operational and may potentially be used even after the effects of coronavirus have subsided. With this likelihood in mind, we were approached by the construction manager and asked to supply hired cooling and heating solutions to ensure that multi-seasonal climate control was available prior to opening.

Keep your ice rink functional with Andrews Chillers

The unexpectedly high temperatures this winter have had direct implications for a number of businesses across the country and prompted experts to predict that Christmas 2018 could be one of the warmest since records began. Temperatures across London have frequently flirted with the mid-teens, with the national press have this week reporting the closure of several ice rinks nationwide as ineffective chillers struggle to keep conditions safe enough for skating.

The installation of undersized equipment at some locations has proved futile in preventing the ice melting, leaving dangerous surface water in its place. While some arenas have sourced alternative units and remained open to the public, others have been forced to close permanently for financial reasons.
