Andrews Sykes agrees partnership extension with Charlton Athletic Community Trust

We’re very pleased to be continuing our sponsorship of the Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT), with next year marking a decade since our association began.

CACT has won countless awards recognising the fantastic work done in the local community and beyond, with approximately 10,000 people benefiting from their services and initiatives every single week.

We have previously teamed up with the Trust to provide employment opportunities and apprenticeships for young people – some of whom have gone on to join the business full-time and remain here to this day.

Andrews Sykes take silver in 7-a-side football tournament

On Sunday 22nd May, a squad of eight Andrews Sykes employees took part in the annual Executive Box holder football tournament held at The Valley. The team had always been eliminated at the knock-out stage in previous years, but there was widespread hope that things would be different in 2016!

A 2-1 victory against Greenwich Inc in the opening group game virtually sealed semi-final qualification after the same team could only draw against Hadlow College. A narrow loss at the hands of Hadlow therefore proved irrelevant but meant Andrews Sykes would face the much-fancied Royal Borough of Greenwich in the penultimate round.

High efficiency air conditioning technology installed at The Valley

As part of Charlton Athletic’s plan to improve the stadium, a huge investment has been made in a state-of-the-art air conditioning system designed to instil unprecedented levels of economical cooling inside the West Stand’s hospitality and dining areas. The upgrade was completed ahead of the new season and offers environmentally-friendly comfort cooling at significantly reduced operating costs.

Our engineers liaised directly with the client’s advisors to ensure the requirements of various applications were considered and then accommodated. This constructive consultation phase allowed the suitability of a variety of modern air conditioning systems to be analysed, before the most appropriate solution was put forward.

Andrews Sykes sponsor Wolves v Charlton clash

As Andrews’ 50th anniversary celebrations now reach the latter stages, it was perhaps fitting that we were able to sponsor the match between Wolves and Charlton that took place during the last weekend of August.

Once again senior directors and employees descended upon the very city in which the company was originally established, with founder John Andrews also attending as special guest for the afternoon. Even now, Andrews Sykes retain strong links with Wolverhampton and recently moved our headquarters from Darlington Street to state-of-the-art premises nearby in St. David’s Court.

Andrews Air Conditioning to sponsor Rixton-headlined charity concert

We are delighted to be sponsoring the Charlton Athletic Community Trust’s annual gig at the Indigo Arena, which will this year be headlined by Rixton on Thursday 9th July. Local artist Autumn Sharif – who made her breakthrough on The Voice – will also be supporting Rixton on the night having recently made her own big strides in the music industry.

CACT is renowned for its commitment to empowering individuals from a wide range of backgrounds, using the power of football as a central focus. As the Trust’s back of shirt sponsors, Andrews Air Conditioning are extremely excited to be involved in proceedings for a second successive year.

Andrews Sykes host friendly at The Valley

As has become somewhat of a May tradition at Andrews Sykes, members of staff once again took part in an annual football match at The Valley following previous years of success. Logistical difficulties meant there could be no rematch between the English and Dutch branches of the business, but there was sufficient interest from the company’s southern-based employees to produce two competitive squads.

Given that our Charlton depot is located just a few hundred yards from the football ground, it was perhaps inevitable that the majority of the players who took part were also based locally – creating an added spice!

Andrews Sykes and Charlton link up for another season

Andrews Sykes are delighted to confirm that our branding will feature on Charlton Athletic’s official kit during the 2015-16 campaign – for a fourth successive season. The deal further strengthens our relationship with the club and is something we are excited to announce following an encouraging twelve months on the pitch.

Once again the Andrews Air Conditioning logo will feature on the back of the red home shirt, while Andrews Heat for Hire will appear on the yet to be seen away strip. The University of Greenwich are set to remain Charlton’s principle sponsors, and the institution’s emblem will sit on the front of all shirts as seen last season.

Young apprentice benefits from Give Youth a Chance scheme

When the Charlton Athletic Community Trust launched a new Give Youth a Chance initiative, we at Andrews Sykes were among the first companies to pledge our support to the scheme.

And a month after getting off the ground, the programme has already paid dividends as one local teenager excitedly recalls.

19-year-old Zeppelin Machen-Smith was one of thousands of young people struggling to find work until he was presented with the opportunity to do a pump engineering apprenticeship at our Charlton base.

He recalled: “I was with my family and my uncles were peering behind the door and my Nan and Granddad were jumping up and down as well! There was a lot of hugging and (I was) very happy throughout the day.

Andrews Sykes attend “Give Youth a Chance” conference

On Thursday 16th October, several members of Andrews Sykes staff were joined by more than 160 corporate guests at the “Give Youth a Chance” launch at the Valley.

The initiative was set up to help adolescents in South East London and Kent find employment through various channels. It aims to bring private, public and charitable sectors together to tender the skills and knowledge acquired of their respective industries.

Charlton Chief Executive Katrien Meire was also present at the event and delivered a speech to attendees confirming the club’s support of the scheme.
