Government department requests replacement cooling during upgrade

At Andrews Air Conditioning, we have a longstanding track record of delivering solutions to the public sector and government bodies. It is not uncommon for requirements to arise unexpectedly – usually when permanently installed equipment fails, or a facility’s use changes suddenly. Organisations that find themselves in these situations rely on the swift response of suppliers, as well as the availability of replacement units.

After discovering a fault with their internal chiller system, the estates team of a ministerial building in Yorkshire approached our regional experts and asked for some alternative units to temporarily supersede the equipment needing repairs.

UPS room in the Shard needs cooling

An international broadcaster headquartered in the Middle East needed the intervention of Andrews Sykes before moving into new offices in London. The Shard – Europe’s tallest freestanding building – was their location of choice, but an overheating issue threatened to obstruct the moving in process.

The main UPS switch room – which provides the company with a back-up power supply – was getting too hot, and this problem had to be addressed before occupancy could begin. We provided the client with a PAC 60 portable air conditioner complete with heat exchanger and accessories, to reduce the internal temperature.  By removing warm air from the vicinity, we prevented critical materials and equipment from being exposed to dangerous amounts of heat.

As blackouts continue to plague Pakistan, the government has turned off all air conditioning units at public offices, according to a report in the Guardian today. Instead, the government has issued a new dress code for civil servants which states that moccasins and sandals must be worn without socks.
Pakistan has experienced energy shortages for many years but so chronic is the current situation, that some areas of the country are enduring blackouts of up to 20 hours per day.

To make all the pain worthwhile, the team gathered sponsorship totalling an amazing £12,000 in aid of the Wooden Spoon Society, the Children’s Charity of UK Rugby, whose Patron is ex England Captain and British Lion, Phil Vickery.
