Plymouth city centre ice rink

A Winter Wonderland based in the heart of Plymouth City Centre was in conjunction with the council, offering free ice skating to schools in the deprived areas. The project was to act as an incentive to get the children to attend school. This proposed that instead of PE sessions they were taken to the outdoor ice rink to go skating.

Andrews Chillers supplied a 750kW chiller unit due to the unusual high climate. The ice rinks are kept cool by pipes running at the base of the rink. The chiller cools water and glycol which is then pumped throughout. The water mixture reaches very low temperatures to keep the ice solid. Therefore even if the rink is not in use the chiller must maintain a temperature of -12°C.

They had fake snow and a grand opening.  A number of free deals were offered to families to encourage children to ice outside school hours also.  Very community focused.
