A holiday company specialising in short break UK holidays are building their most sustainable holiday village yet. Nestled in ancient woodland in Bedfordshire, the village will be 25% more efficient than any other. To achieve this, the company needed to ensure that the heating system was highly efficient with a reduced carbon footprint. An energy centre was designed by the company’s specialist design consultant who requested the help and advice of Andrews Sykes for the testing of the two megawatt boiler system. To do this, Andrews Sykes would simulate the heat load the boiler would be put under when the site was fully operational.
Andrews Sykes specialist engineers immediately visited the site to assess what equipment was needed and to install it. The purpose of this innovative heating system is that only eight boilers are needed to supply heat to 250 holiday cottages, instead of an individual boiler being needed for each cottage. Eight 300kW air handling units were supplied to dissipate the energy from the existing boiler. After the testing the company were delighted that the heating system worked as it meant their building work could continue as planned and that holiday lodges could be moved into on time.
