Control panels empower site operators to keep pumps operational for extended durations, upholding safety standards while curbing expenses related to electricity or fuel.

Within Sykes’ array of control panels, we have built an extensive, in-demand rental fleet of automation solutions and DOL motor starters. Now, with the launch of our newly developed 30kW VSD panels, we are adding a critical third dimension to our control capabilities. This fills a major gap for customers by providing advanced inverter-based motor control alongside conventional starters.

What makes the Variable Speed Drive different?

Our VSD control panels help lower the start-up current and amperage requirements of pumps. This enables smaller generators to be used on-site compared to those used in conjunction with DOL or soft start panels. Our versatile VSD panels can be used on pumps ranging between 5kW and 30kW, rendering it a viable option on a broad scale of applications.

Did you know?

Depending on the length of hire, a significant proportion of a pump’s rental cost actually comes from the power consumed to run it – which means a VSD panel can play a very significant role in terms of limiting the life cycle costs.

For example, if a customer has an application where they now need less flow from their pump but it runs at a fixed speed (without a VSD), their only option is to use a gate valve.  When the gate valve is partially closed to throttle the flow, the speed of the pump remains unchanged and energy usage remains the same along with greater wear on the pump and piping. However, if the same scenario involved a VSD, they can slow the speed of the pump which reduces the amperage (less energy consumption) and saves money on electricity/fuel to run it.
