Ingram off to a flyer after Azores Rallye triumph

Chris Ingram made the perfect start to the ERC Junior U27 Championship at the weekend after a scintillating battle with Finnish team-mate Jari Huttunen.

The Mancunian led by 0.8 seconds ahead of the Azores Airlines Rallye’s final three stages but seemed to lose all momentum when technical difficulties began to set in.

Victory seemed certain to cruelly slip through Chris’ grasp at the eleventh hour after his Opel Adam lost power on the final morning of competition.

This paved the way for Huttunen to establish a seemingly insurmountable six second lead at the final run, before he too suffered some bad luck in the form of a driveshaft failure just 200 metres from the finish.

The result meant that our Heat for Hire-backed driver was able to maintain his fantastic record on Portuguese territory and begin the 2017 season in the best possible way.

Coverage of the nail biting showdown was broadcast live on Eurosport once again and was watched by millions around the continent.

We now look forward to Chris taking to the tarmac in Gran Canaria next month as he looks to build on his fantastic start to the European Rally Championship.
