Worldwide locations With gyms and sports facilities obliged to undertake a series of updated precautions following the relaxation of blanket lockdown restrictions, operators have been forced to adapt in order to keep their customers safe. A legal requirement to implement one-way systems, introduce frequent cleaning of all machines and apparatus and ensuring that people are more spread out has led to additional space being needed in many instances.
The latest government guidance applies to all venues including those belonging to professional sports teams. In response to the changes, Charlton Athletic Football Club reacted by creating a temporary gym area at their training ground in Eltham.
This additional space allows players to exercise in a more socially distanced manner, with two hired heater units installed outside the temporary structure to ensure the indoor temperature was comfortable. The equipment we supplied helped maintain a constantly warm environment to minimise the risk of injury but also delivered regular air changes and improved ventilation – a vital provision given the current climate.
Our indirect fired ID35 heaters were deployed outside the application, with large volumes of warm air ducted inside. By not using the heaters’ recirculation capability, we ensured that fresh ambient air was continually being passed through the units before reaching the gym. This configuration allowed us to deliver numerous air changes per hour in line with Public Health England’s recommendations, keeping players and staff safe while the season was ongoing.
