National boat broker hires pump to tackle leak on site

A leading residential & leisure mooring service provider approached us with an emergency request after discovering a leak at one of their docks. Our client was concerned that there could be implications for people staying in some of their waterside retreats on site, prompting them to get in touch with us as a matter of urgency.

From our perspective, the project was simple. A single silenced GP150 general purpose pump would be required to remove sea water from the area, but the speed of service was what really counted.

Groundwater remedy keeps residential development on track

As the country’s leading provider of temporary pump hire solutions, it’s fair to say we’re very well acquainted with dewatering applications and everything they entail. Dewatering is a blanket term that refers to the removal of groundwater or surface water from an excavation site, and there are various techniques that might be adopted in order to achieve this.

The safe removal of excess water is an integral part of any construction scheme because it reduces the chances of foundations becoming unstable, or of hazardous mudslides impeding a project. Before any work is undertaken, it is essential that a dewatering strategy is factored into the schedule to ensure that all deadlines are adhered to.

Sykes Pumps provides over-pumping solution for local council

Sykes Pumps was recently approached by a major building and civil engineering company and asked to help assist with the repair of a local culvert.

Before work could take place, our engineers were required to provide an immediate pumping solution to over-pump the stream – cleaning out all the silt build-up and then removing old metal sheeting to allow the contractor to replace it with a new one.

Our response was to propose the hire of an 8” submersible alongside a smaller 6” submersible to catch excess water. We also provided a 60kVA generator and a separate fuel tank to enable quiet operation within a densely-populated neighbourhood.

Sykes’ dewatering expertise opens the door to residential development in Somerset

Before work could commence on the proposed construction of 110 new homes in Sedgemoor, it was essential that a lake on the designated land was drained to facilitate the next steps.

Although the lake itself was reasonably small in size, our customer was looking to permanently remove contained water from the excavation area as quickly as possible so that the soil was stable and more conducive to permitting the building work that was to follow.

Having surveyed the area to ensure they arrived at the correct solution, our regional expert recommended the hire of a single 8″ Super Wispaset 200 Ecotec to conduct the required task. This product was purposefully selected because of its incredible fuel economy and quiet operation, with the latter factor being a key consideration due to the presence of existing residential properties just a few yards away.

Sykes Pumps help leading university with construction project

When one of West Sussex’s leading universities had plans to develop a new engineering and technological facility, Sykes Pumps was on hand to provide a temporary over-pumping solution to help facilitate the project.

The scheme in question was taking place on a live university campus so required an immediate pump hire solution to assist with a sewer diversion while a section of the existing sewer mains was being replaced.

After assessing the site, our specialists recommended the installation of two 8” electric submersible pumps. The pumps were able to over-pump the sewage from the manholes to a section of the mains approximately 80 metres away in each location, enabling the segment in between to be removed.

Groundwater removal paves the way for luxury spa

A specialist framework contractor frequently entrusted with high-risk developments sought the assistance of an equally trustworthy pumps supplier in order to complete a project in Oxfordshire. As part of plans to improve facilities on the site of a Grade II Listed country estate, our client was asked to lay foundations for a new health and spa lodge due to be built within the grounds.

Our involvement specifically related to the need to remove vast quantities of rain and groundwater from the new building’s footprint. The base of the new structure was due to be approximately 20 metres below ground level, meaning any pump proposed would need to be able to operate at heads above that height.
