Chiller Hire

Emergency cooling package allows international food production company to recommence manufacturing

For our many clients in the food and beverage sector, any issue that slows or even completely halts production must be dealt with immediately. This requisite was the very reason that an international food and drink conglomerate asked Andrews Sykes to propose an emergency chiller hire following a problem with a line on their newly installed water-cooling system.

Their existing supplier took more than 48 hours to respond when the fault was originally reported, costing our customer approximately one million pounds in missing output. Given the scale of the impact and the astronomical sums lost, our client was desperate to restore the manufacturing process which prompted them to cut ties with their provider – one of our competitors.

How do chillers work and which unit is best for me?

Finding a temporary cooling solution can be a daunting challenge, particularly if your requirement is of an urgent nature. With this in mind, the team at Andrews Chillers have created a short video that explains the functionality of chillers and how to guarantee the perfect outcome for your cooling application.

Using sample scenarios, the animation demonstrates the specific process that a unit goes through to provide the cooling for your requirement.

The aim of the video is to give our customers a better understanding of the chiller units we offer and explain how they apply to different environments. The video shows how you can overcome your cooling challenges while discussing the various types of cooling. These include comfort cooling, high capacity cooling and process cooling.

With comfort cooling in particular, it is important to understand that this type of cooling is used to regulate the temperature and create a comfortable environment for people within a specific area. This type of chiller is normally used in hospitals and hotels in addition to offices and conference rooms. These sectors require an accurate temperature control as a system failure can directly influence the satisfaction of building occupants.

Former Ford factory converted into temporary hospital

At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, a 1950s industrial unit and former car factory in South Wales was transformed into a field hospital as part of a countrywide effort to overcome the virus. The 11,000 square metre site is now a renowned film studio and has undergone a drastic overhaul thanks to Swansea City Council’s collaborative work with various contractors.

Creating space for more than 1,300 beds over a two-phase project, the hospital is now fully operational and may potentially be used even after the effects of coronavirus have subsided. With this likelihood in mind, we were approached by the construction manager and asked to supply hired cooling and heating solutions to ensure that multi-seasonal climate control was available prior to opening.

When the Government’s recent easing of lockdown restrictions allowed many indoor entertainment premises to reopen, Andrews Air Conditioning was contacted on behalf of a UK-based bingo operator desperately in need of some temporary climate control.

Due to an extensive period of inactivity brought about by enforced closure, compressors on the building’s chillers had failed and left the entire facility without any means of cooling. Our client only became aware of the issue two days before the hall was due to welcome back guests, with the issue uncovered out-of-hours on a Saturday evening.

The client was concerned about high seasonal temperatures potentially affecting their server room and this was prior to the expected peak on their internal network system.

Exam results were just days away from being revealed, meaning a temporary air conditioning hire was required beforehand to ensure this particular university’s telecommunication services were kept online.

FM company seeks chiller hire on behalf of government authority

Andrews Chiller Hire was recently contacted by a prominent facilities manager looking to prevent a major client’s data centre from overheating. Our customer was aware that their chillers and condensers were no longer performing as expected, meaning a temporary hire solution was required to allow planned repairs to be carried out.

The client was looking to decommission all three of their chillers over a period of two days but could not have less than two units operating at any given time. This precise requirement necessitated that a team of Andrews engineers worked extremely closely with the site’s fitting team to ensure that sufficient cooling capacities were constantly available during peak loads.

The importance of climate control in data centres

Designed to serve as a centralised location where the purpose of sharing, processing, storing and collecting of data is the main priority, data centres feature several core components that enable them to function efficiently. A data centre centralises just about every single aspect of a company’s IT operation, storing and disseminating information accordingly. Running 24/7, the safety and reliability of websites, email clients, online communities, social media platforms, e-commerce transactions, cloud applications and software are all dependent on a data centre’s uninterrupted functionality.
