Andrews Sykes sponsor Wolves v Charlton clash

As Andrews’ 50th anniversary celebrations now reach the latter stages, it was perhaps fitting that we were able to sponsor the match between Wolves and Charlton that took place during the last weekend of August.

Once again senior directors and employees descended upon the very city in which the company was originally established, with founder John Andrews also attending as special guest for the afternoon. Even now, Andrews Sykes retain strong links with Wolverhampton and recently moved our headquarters from Darlington Street to state-of-the-art premises nearby in St. David’s Court.

Andrews Sykes host friendly at The Valley

As has become somewhat of a May tradition at Andrews Sykes, members of staff once again took part in an annual football match at The Valley following previous years of success. Logistical difficulties meant there could be no rematch between the English and Dutch branches of the business, but there was sufficient interest from the company’s southern-based employees to produce two competitive squads.

Given that our Charlton depot is located just a few hundred yards from the football ground, it was perhaps inevitable that the majority of the players who took part were also based locally – creating an added spice!

Young apprentice benefits from Give Youth a Chance scheme

When the Charlton Athletic Community Trust launched a new Give Youth a Chance initiative, we at Andrews Sykes were among the first companies to pledge our support to the scheme.

And a month after getting off the ground, the programme has already paid dividends as one local teenager excitedly recalls.

19-year-old Zeppelin Machen-Smith was one of thousands of young people struggling to find work until he was presented with the opportunity to do a pump engineering apprenticeship at our Charlton base.

He recalled: “I was with my family and my uncles were peering behind the door and my Nan and Granddad were jumping up and down as well! There was a lot of hugging and (I was) very happy throughout the day.

Andrews Ventilation Hire help to keep the Valley green

When Charlton Athletics experienced grounds man and former player Colin Powell noticed some problems with the grass growth in one corner of the Valley pitch, he knew that the problem was due to lack of air flow. This is a problem that often occurs in modern wrap around stadiums, where air flow at pitch level is restricted. Having Andrews Sykes as the official club sponsor, Colin knew that a solution would be found. After visiting the stadium and talking to the pitch experts, the Andrews engineers recommended the positioning of two ventilation fans in the problem area.

New Charlton ‘Away’ Kit Launched

Andrews Sykes welcomes CAFC to our Charlton Depot

A delegation of players, backroom staff and club officers were welcomed to Andrews Sykes’ Charlton Hub, one of the busiest in the nationwide network of Climate Control and Pump Hire facilities

Yann Kermorgant and Johnnie Jackson represented the players and were kind enough to don the striking black and white kit for photo opportunities with the Andrews Sykes team. They had a tour of the facilities and met many of the staff and answered questions and signed autographs – many of those who work at Andrews Sykes are long standing Charlton fans so this was a real treat. Maybe for the players a short break after hard pre-season training was also a welcome change of pace as well, but both looked in good condition and are clearly raring to go for the new season

Helping to beat prostate cancer…‘On Your Bike’ to Amsterdam

Andrews Sykes is delighted to share the news of the successful completion of the daunting ‘London to Amsterdam’ cycle challenge by our sponsored team of Andy and Nick Chipperfield, who are closely linked to Charlton Athletic Football Club. This builds on our recently announced shirt sponsorship

The intrepid duo embarked on the 155-mile cycle ride on Friday, June 14th alongside former England, Watford and AC Milan striker Luther Blissett and a number of other famous figures.
We understand that Holland is a great place for cyclists, being nice and flat, having decent quality roads and relatively low levels of traffic – all very cyclist-friendly. But taking on the challenge of cycling a huge distance across country in ‘less cyclist friendly’ Britain just to get there to sample these delights seemed a bit extreme, so there must be a good reason we reckoned, and of course there was.
