Andrews provides climate control for eagerly anticipated US-Russia summit

As the world watched on with bated breath, President Biden met Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin for what many expected to be palpably tense diplomatic discussions in Geneva.

Although no major breakthroughs were envisaged, there was hope among other heads of state that some common ground could be established at a time where relations between the two countries have frequently been described as at their lowest.

And while some observers might have predicted some explosive exchanges and for the two protagonists to get a little hot under the collar, our colleagues in Switzerland went above and beyond to help ensure this didn’t happen.

Temporary chiller hire keeps factory operational following temperature surge

Andrews Chiller Hire was recently drafted in to assist a global defence contractor after receiving an urgent enquiry for temporary cooling to restore conditions within their factory.

With summer temperatures soaring, our client was struggling to maintain a comfortable environment inside their machining workshops, causing production to grind to a halt for safety reasons. Usually operating 24 hours a day, the mechanical jigs were actually warping due to the heat and so addressing the problem quickly was of critical importance.

Medical research facility seeks huge cooling package for planned shutdown

In order to manage a project efficiently, it is important that even the most seemingly insignificant details are considered before a solution is tailored. The one-size-fits-all ideology may suffice on smaller assignments but on bigger contracts with countless variables at play, this approach will almost certainly lead to complications further down the line.

At Andrews Sykes, we savour opportunities to get involved with the more high-profile or logistically challenging jobs because they allow us to demonstrate our true capability. Everyday hires provide us with sustenance, but it is the way we handle largescale projects that really sets us apart.

Air purification system protects the well-being of Post Office staff

It has been well documented that facilities management companies are having to go the extra mile to keep their clients safe, with COVID directly responsible for big changes in most industries. A focus towards improving ventilation and increasing air changes within confined spaces has caused a significant upsurge in demand for equipment that can implement these safer conditions – something that Andrews has witnessed first-hand.

An FM services provider responsible for a Cambridgeshire Post Office and sorting depot recently got in touch with us and asked us to recommend some units that could improve the working environment for staff.

Digester boiler hire helps preserve energy output at sewage treatment plant

For many water companies, the annual electricity bill will exceed £1million per annum which renders it one of their most expensive operating overheads. The process of anaerobic digestion does however offer an alternative source of fuel, by converting sewage and other waste into a biogas that is used to generate renewable energy. In order for this to occur, the digester itself must reach a certain temperature for bacteria to produce the gas.

Following the Christmas period, we were contacted by a southern-based water contractor after they experienced an issue with one of their digesters on site. The mechanical tank had suffered a fault and was subsequently unable to reach the temperature that was required to break down organic waste.

Heater hire cuts screed drying times to keep building project on track

Now more than ever, construction companies are under great pressure to complete building projects on time and ensure that any potential causes of delay are quickly addressed. One of the most common reasons for deadlines being pushed back is a need for screed to dry properly, which can lead to developments grinding to a halt and prevent labourers from accessing the impacted areas.

This was the situation facing a contractor responsible for upgrading a large sports complex in Cambridgeshire and prompted them to get in touch with Andrews. Our client had initially hired some DE190 electric heaters from us to assist the drying of resin in a toilet block on site, but they now required a high capacity heating solution for the project’s next phase.

Emergency boiler hire helps avert patient relocation at healthcare facility

An unexpected boiler failure can have a range of consequences for healthcare facilities and leave patients vulnerable. Issues are commonly detected and reported during the build-up to winter, and this was the case for a large NHS Trust looking after a dedicated mental health service in the South East. In this instance, a control malfunction had left the boiler inoperable, prompting the estates team to contact Andrews so that an alternative unit could be installed.

Our client contacted us late in the evening and requested the deployment of a replacement boiler hire as quickly as possible. Due to concerns about the potential for legionella bacteria to grow as a result of low water temperature, it was vital that we connected a substitute boiler that same evening.

Stand-in pump hire replacement keeps MOD pumping station online

Towards the end of summer, Sykes was contacted by a utility contractor working on behalf of a Ministry of Defence site in Lincolnshire. Our client was looking for a temporary solution to be installed as a replacement for units located in a pumping station on site. The customer’s existing pumps required routine maintenance and so had to be decommissioned to enable them to be attended to.

The application necessitated a pump hire solution that could divert water over a hill and match the output of the equipment that was originally in place. For this to be accurately calculated, we sent a local expert to the location so that they could specify the job in person.

Heater hire provides fresh air and heating to Kent school’s temporary structures

Although the second wave of lockdown restrictions has seen businesses from many industries forced to close, schools, colleges and universities have had to develop and implement various social distancing solutions to ensure they are operating as safely as possible.

Because of this, Andrews Heat for Hire has observed a sharp spike in enquiries as education providers strive to keep newly introduced overflow facilities warm and as COVID-secure as possible.

Given the current climate, our client was delighted that we could offer a heater hire package that not only increases temperatures but also constantly reintroduces fresh, clean air from outside.
