Andrews Sykes just miss out on avenging England heartbreak…
In a classic match, spookily reminiscent of Stuart Pearce’s heartbreak as England ‘caretaker’ Manager last February, teams representing Andrews Sykes staff from England and Holland competed in a thrilling game as the company celebrates a successful spell as Charlton Athletic sponsors for the 2012/2013 season.
Held at Charlton Athletic’s home ground ’The Valley’, in South East London, a stone’s throw away from the Andrews Sykes Charlton depot, this was an exciting opportunity for the company to not just reflect on a year of successful sponsorship but also a chance for staff from two nations to meet each other for the first time.
The match ended with a 2-3 victory to the visitors, exactly the same score as last February at Wembley. The Dutch team, comprising staff from Amsterdam, Hoogeveen and Bleiswijk near Rotterdam, overcame the travails of their journey in a hard fought match; the Dutch took a three goal lead with the English contingent only just missing out on an outstanding comeback.
Trophies and medals were presented at the post match supper leading to discussions around the room for a return fixture, and perhaps the beginning of a friendly rivalry between the two countries with the company’s new social activity proving a great hit.
