Andrews customers follow Chris Ingram to Ypres Rally

The 53rd Rallye d’Ypres is set to take place this weekend and will see competitors from all around Europe tackle the various stages in Belgium’s north-westerly city.

This year’s event appears to have captured the imagination of rally fans more than ever before, as it will now also count for the British Rally Championship – widely recognised as the continent’s most high-profile national rally competition.

Although not a European Rally Championship round this year, Ypres is an all-new round of the British tour and this will be the first time an Andrews car has been seen in the series since Russell Brookes finished 2nd in the 1991 British Championship.

Reigning European champion Chris Ingram will be taking to the track in Ypres and will be hoping that he continues his fine form this season, following two straight wins in Gran Canaria and the Azores.

The Andrews Heat for Hire-backed man has spoken of his excitement in the build-up to Thursday’s shakedown, which is expected to attract more than 5,000 spectators.

He told us: “I’m really looking forward to driving in Ypres which has traditionally always been a fabulous event for competitors and fans alike.”

A number of Andrews Sykes staff will be among the crowds this weekend, with the company’s French general manager hosting customers based in the region.

And Chris is delighted to have the travelling support of some Andrews personnel, saying: “It’s great that they will be joining us in Ypres! For some, it will be their first motor racing experience and I’m determined to play my part in ensuring they want to come back again!”

As well as competing for the podium on this groundbreaking new BRC round, Chris and co-driver Elliott Edmondson will be using the event to launch an exciting new partnership for the team and to prepare for the remaining rounds of the European Rally Championship.
