Andrews comes to the Netherlands: a brief look back

When Andrews Sykes sponsored the Wolverhampton Wanderers versus Charlton Athletic match at Molineux in January, company founder John Andrews was present along with a number of longstanding employees. The event offered a good opportunity for staff members past and present to discuss the business’ growth and reminisce, with the conversation eventually turning to our overseas operations.

In 1971, we opened our first depot abroad in the Netherlands – in a town called Bleiswijk, close to Rotterdam – and this was arguably the catalyst for further growth throughout much of the continent and beyond.

The photo above was taken ten years after opening and, while the original structure still remains in place, the fashion displayed in this picture has fortunately since caught up with the times!

As well as the outlet pictured, Andrews Sykes now have three other bases in the Netherlands – underlining the company’s rapid growth during this period. A local presence in Amsterdam, Oischot and Hoogeveen therefore allows us to provide same-day assistance to the entire region, with further development scheduled for the near future.

Within seven years of Andrews Industrial Equipment being established in the UK, we had taken our first steps towards branching out across Europe. As such, our Netherlands-based commercial activities are now well into their fifth decade, with the Andrews brand currently in the midst of celebrating fifty years of successful enterprise.
