Andrews Sykes agrees partnership extension with Charlton Athletic Community Trust

We’re very pleased to be continuing our sponsorship of the Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT), with next year marking a decade since our association began.

CACT has won countless awards recognising the fantastic work done in the local community and beyond, with approximately 10,000 people benefiting from their services and initiatives every single week.

We have previously teamed up with the Trust to provide employment opportunities and apprenticeships for young people – some of whom have gone on to join the business full-time and remain here to this day.

Andrews’ Rapid Response Boiler saves local football club

Our expertise in the sports and leisure industry prompted Oldham Athletic Football Club to approach us after their existing boiler system was taken offline just two days before a home match was scheduled to take place at Boundary Park. An issue beyond the club’s control had left the entire stadium without heating and hot water and needed to be rectified immediately in order for vital amenities to be available to players, staff and supporters on matchday.

The issue was brought to our attention on the Thursday, less than 48 hours before the game was due to kick-off. Failure to address the problem in time would have left shower blocks without warm water, corporate areas and lounges without heating and the kitchen also largely out of action. With urgent intervention essential and time quickly running out, it was decided that our 100kW Rapid Response Boiler would be ideal for the application and provide an adequate heating duty for the stadium’s requirements.

Sykes Pumps aids Cumbria pipeline installation

A Keswick-based contractor sought a tailored pump hire solution for the purpose of transporting water during an underwater tunnelling job, prompting them to contact Sykes Pumps. The proposed hire would allow the contractor to successfully proceed with the installation of a new pipeline that was being constructed to allow the transfer of water within Cumbria and back to a primary reservoir.

As the contractor’s site was experiencing a severe issue with run-off water, the scope for larger problems further down the line could have potentially stalled the entire development.

Dehumidification hire salvages leisure centre renovation scheme

Andrews Sykes was recently contacted by a construction and restoration company requiring assistance with the refurbishment of a leisure centre based in Exeter. Suffering from severe water ingress and moisture issues within various parts of the building, the contractor urgently sought equipment that would contain the extent of any water damage suffered. If a solution could not be quickly sourced, the client would have fallen behind on the project and incurred higher costs as a result.

Once contact had been established with Andrews, our regional expert visited site to conduct a thorough assessment of the leisure centre’s affected areas. By doing this, we were able to ratify that there would be no further complications which allowed us to decisively propose the correct hire solution.

Concrete batching plant contacts Andrews Boilers

The process of concrete batching is reliant upon several factors to ensure the quality and integrity of the final product. While the correct proportion of materials (cement, aggregates and water, to name three) must be accurately measured, arguably just as important is maintaining an optimum temperature to guarantee the production of sustainable, robust concrete.

We were recently contacted by a batching plant in Bristol, with a long-term equipment hire required to maintain the desired conditions throughout both summer and winter. The nature of the application meant our regional engineer would need to specify a solution capable of dealing with significant changes to the ambient temperature.

Emergency chiller replacement ensures breakfast is still served!

Andrews Sykes has always had close ties with the food and beverage industry, having routinely provided temporary equipment to some of the biggest names in the field. Manufacturing processes, in particular, often go hand in hand with very specific requirements involving cooling, refrigeration or even freezing.

Our expertise was recently called into action by an established refrigeration specialist, who was responsible for maintaining equipment on behalf of one of the country’s best-loved cereal companies.

Surface water removal kick-starts building work on residential development

In April this year, permission was granted for more than 100 homes to be built in the Cheshire area following approval of the preliminary development designs. The local council has now given the green light for work on the project to commence, with the contract awarded to a northern-based civil engineering company that has previously worked with Sykes Pumps.

Our client was concerned about groundwater but first needed to tackle the presence of surface water that had accumulated on some parts of the site. Before any excavation work could begin, it was essential that the nuisance water was removed and diverted into a natural watercourse located nearby.

Queue jumping tops list of things that irk Brits, study finds

BMW drivers ignoring their indicators, getting locked out and ‘jobsworths’ are among the things that bring us to boiling point, according to a recent survey.

The study of 2,000 adults revealed other infuriating issues are having no heating, people eating loudly and queue jumpers.

For four in 10, ‘people who think rules don’t apply to them’ will send their blood pressure rising, and 27 per cent get irked by drivers not stopping at zebra crossings.

Another one in three (33 per cent) feel the red mist descending when they are sent from pillar to post on automated company customer service lines.

International production company safeguards film set

The vast majority of Covid transmission occurs indoors, with most of this caused by the inhalation of contaminated air particles. In an ideal world, you could prevent – or at least limit – the virus from spreading in your business by keeping infected people off-site. But if we’ve learnt anything in the last 20 months, it’s that it isn’t quite that simple.

Approximately 40% of those carrying the virus are asymptomatic, making it difficult to identify positive cases unless tests are taken every day. In most industries, however, this does not happen. Instead, more practical alternatives are sought, often leading to the acquisition of mechanical solutions such as air purification units.

Distinguished London hospital seeks heater hire for COVID testing and vaccination centres

Since the coronavirus outbreak, Andrews has worked alongside the NHS on a national scale to provide a range of essential HVAC services. Initially tasked with supplying comfort cooling in hospitals, improving ventilation in sealed areas and connecting boilers for temporary heating and showering facilities, our input is now required to help assist the next stage of recovery.

One of the capital’s largest and most well-known hospitals contacted us in early December and asked us to propose a short-term heating configuration that would maintain a comfortable temperature inside two temporary structures.
