Thames Water seeks emergency pump hire following burst water main

An emergency pumping requirement demands an instant response, particularly when the implications of inaction include members of the public being severely inconvenienced. This was the situation a revered construction company found themselves in after a burst water main in Thamesmead left a quiet residential area flooded.

The contractor was left to handle the project on behalf of Thames Water, with their desire to rectify the issue as soon as possible prompting them to contact Sykes Pumps. Having phoned our local depot in Charlton shortly after the problem was reported, it was evident that the client had an understanding of precisely which unit they were looking for to help remove the nuisance water on site.

Andrews assists M&E contractors on £19billion Crossrail project

The Crossrail project is now making great inroads and expected to bring the Elizabeth line into passenger service before mid-2022. It is thought that the Bond Street station will accommodate almost a quarter of a million people per day once operational and greatly improve accessibility at one of the UK’s busiest shopping districts.

Work is currently ongoing at the station, with M&E subcontractors and service engineers finalising the installation of electrical systems and other infrastructure inside the building’s UPS rooms. However, with seasonal temperatures becoming increasingly warm and no fixed ventilation or air conditioning system in place, the utilities company in charge of this project was forced to supply a temporary source of cooling.

Replacement cooling hire keeps data centre online during system upgrade

Data centres and server rooms are among the most temperature-sensitive applications around, so there can be no room for error when it comes to ensuring that climate control systems are operating properly.

This means conducting regular maintenance which should include the frequent replacement of filters, coils and the cleaning of drains and other components. Many cooling solutions will also comprise of direct expansion (DX) units, which function by cooling indoor air using condensed refrigerant liquid. These, too, will also need to be replaced from time to time to help preserve the longevity and performance of a fixed air conditioning system.

Researchers demonstrate link between air purification and aerosol removal

It’s almost impossible to read the news without seeing a reference to the environment, air quality or climate change – and there’s a very good reason for that. More than 400,000 deaths in Europe last year were attributed to air pollution, which continues to be seen as one of the most prevalent public health issues across the globe.

A common cause of air pollution is the use of everyday household aerosols, which now emit more harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs) than vehicles permitted to use UK roads.

Pump hire averts drainage issues on residential site

When a major housebuilder working on a new residential development in Surrey encountered a drainage issue on site, they turned to Sykes Pumps for assistance. The problem stemmed from the fact that many homes were already occupied before connections had been fitted to the drainage system installed beneath the properties.

Essentially, this meant that rainfall was retained inside a manhole which needed to be continuously emptied to prevent it from overflowing and flooding the surrounding area. The client indicated that they expected a significant delay caused by difficulties with getting the connections sourced and fitted to resolve the issue.
