Earlier in 2020, Andrews Air Conditioning was contacted by one of the world’s largest mass media companies to discuss a long-term project involving a complete overhaul of the cooling equipment in place at their London data centre. Our client operates a widely viewed television channel and was conscious that ageing air conditioning units within their server rooms had lost efficiency and suffered water leakages.

The broadcaster had drawn up plans to replace the entire cooling system with modern equipment and this was due to be installed over two separate phases. Following discussions back in January, our client had made adaptions to their premises that allowed Andrews units to be connected directly to their own ductwork.

When the Government’s recent easing of lockdown restrictions allowed many indoor entertainment premises to reopen, Andrews Air Conditioning was contacted on behalf of a UK-based bingo operator desperately in need of some temporary climate control.

Due to an extensive period of inactivity brought about by enforced closure, compressors on the building’s chillers had failed and left the entire facility without any means of cooling. With overwhelmingly hot conditions making Charlton’s gymnasium and indoor training facilities uncomfortably hot for players during their pre-season workouts, an air conditioning solution was required to help restore temperatures to a more comfortable level.

The players were undergoing various fitness tests at their Eltham training ground, with a cooler environment required to ensure their schedules were not impacted in any way.

A club representative contacted us to explain the problem before an expert from our local depot visited the training ground to assess which equipment would be most suitable. After assessing the size of the areas in which cooling was required, it was decided that three PAC 22 split type air conditioning units would be ideal for the application and quickly address the stuffy environment.
