Long-term pump hire assists Ebbsfleet Garden City scheme

One of the UK’s most high-profile residential and commercial developments is making good progress, with the entire project scheduled to be completed by 2035. Located almost precisely at the point London meets Kent, Ebbsfleet has already undergone a significant transition prior to the planned construction of another 15,000 homes.

The entire development spans hundreds of acres, with an area historically known as the Eastern Quarry currently the subject of focus from leading contractors. This location has already seen considerable changes following the creation and naming of the Whitecliffe village, but the presence of a large lagoon has hampered extensive infrastructural advancements.

Hospital requests seasonal cooling hire for patient wards

During the build-up to summer, Andrews Air Conditioning was approached by a prominent South Coast hospital seeking temporary comfort cooling across multiple wards. The client had been reassured by our COVID-19 precautions and was keen to select a supplier committed to health and safety best practice. Our sanitisation and sterilisation procedures and use of PPE on site were specifically cited as being among the reasons they opted for us.

Having hired air conditioning units to this hospital in each of the previous four summers, we were familiar with their requirement and what it was they needed. Their preference, as always, was to deploy several individual units within each ward to provide comfort cooling for both patients and staff.

Structural engineers protected by ventilation hire arrangement

When an international architectural engineering company required a temporary ventilation hire package to protect staff on site, we stepped in to provide a practical solution. Our client has been responsible for manufacturing some of the country’s most iconic structures, overseeing all aspects of the design including applying intumescent coatings and paintwork.

These processes, although essential, can produce volatile organic compounds (VOCs) which are potentially harmful to those in the vicinity unless preventative action is taken. VOCs are essentially unstable gases that are released into the air while paint dries and are now subject to stringent government regulation due to the health implications of people inhaling them.

Hinkley Point C project requires dewatering solution

The sheer scale of Hinkley Point presents its fair share of challenges, necessitating that the experts at Sykes Pumps oversee the site’s far-reaching dewatering requirements. One of the difficulties of managing a site of this size and scope, particularly given its coastal location, and proximity to natural water courses, is taking rainfall and tidal surges into consideration. To help achieve this, the lead contractor has divided the vast site into six water managements zones (WMZ) and enlisted the help of Sykes Pumps, to provide the varied pumping solutions required.

Bespoke air conditioning hire cools hospital during summer

At the beginning of summer, Andrews Air Conditioning was contacted by an NHS Trust searching for seasonal cooling on behalf of a prominent hospital in Hampshire. Our client required a temporary air conditioning hire to be operational for approximately 12 weeks and specified that they would be unable to house any equipment within the buildings themselves, with space also very restricted at ground level.

The customer advised that their existing air handling system was perfectly functional and that, if possible, it was preferred that we provide units that were compatible with this equipment.

Pump hire assists annual maintenance work at power station

When a power station in Nottinghamshire required annual routine maintenance procedures, a lull in demand for electricity at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic provided a perfect window of opportunity for this to be carried out. No longer fully operational, the coal-powered plant acts as a reserve source of electricity generation and is due to be decommissioned within the next five years.

However, the organisation responsible for managing the site is obliged to fulfil capacity market agreements that include regular upkeep to ensure all UK power supplies continue to be preserved. As a result, the energy company made contact and asked us to devise a specialist pump hire solution to assist with cleaning the upper sections of each cooling tower.

Emergency air conditioning hire helps keep vital medical staff cool

The impact of COVID-19 has necessitated that staff working in hospitals wear personal protective equipment (PPE), with direct consequences for nurses, doctors, therapists, technicians and anyone else carrying out their daily duties on site. While this precaution has been effective in reducing the transmission of infectious agents between people, it has put medical staff at greater risk of suffering heat stress and general discomfort.

For this reason, Andrews Air Conditioning was recently contacted by the estates team of a prominent hospital in Gloucestershire. Our client explained that the mandatory use of PPE had greatly affected many of their employees and as such they were looking to create specific areas on each ward that would allow overheating staff to take quick ‘cooling breaks’.
