Business as usual for Andrews Sykes this Christmas

Those hoping for a white Christmas this year will once again be disappointed with forecasters suggesting that December 25 will be a dreary wet day for most of the UK!

The news has been coupled with the Met Office issuing a series of flood warnings across the country with the South West likely to be the worst-hit area. We’re now in the darkest week of the calendar year with heavy rain and cold weather expected to strike nationwide.

Meteorologists have even gone as far as suggesting that imminent downpours and gales present a ‘threat to life’ and that businesses in the affected regions are at risk.

More than twenty flood warnings are currently in place less than a week before Christmas and there are fears that heavy rainfall could have serious of implications for millions of people in England and Wales.

This is not the first time that devastating weather has threatened to cause havoc over the festive period after the infamous flooding of 2015 left much of the North in a state of chaos.

Andrews Heat for Hire team up with CACT to keep vulnerable locals warm

With Christmas almost upon us and seasonal cold weather beginning to set in, now is the time where many people pause to consider the impact winter has on some of the more vulnerable members of society.

That’s why Andrews Heat for Hire are proud to be working alongside the Charlton Athletic Community Trust as part of the Stay Warm Stay Safe campaign – an initiative set up to help residents of the Royal Borough of Greenwich and surrounding areas keep warm.

This is a scheme that is very close to our heart, with the majority of employees at our flagship Charlton depot hailing from Greenwich and neighbouring towns.

We’re therefore very pleased to be donating a large number of new oil-filled electric radiators to the campaign’s organisers as a starting point of our involvement.

How can companies protect themselves against winter conditions?

As winter approaches, there are many reasons why you may need to consider a temporary heating hire solution. With temperatures starting to plummet across many parts of the UK, we must contemplate how this can affect your company’s staff and operations.

According to UK government guidelines, it is the responsibility of your employer to maintain a ‘reasonable’ temperature in your place of work – and this varies from industry to industry. In 2017, a survey conducted by Andrews Sykes revealed that productivity within an office environment is heavily impacted if temperatures are either too hot or too cold. Up to 80% of those asked admitted to complaining about the temperature of their office, which underlines just how widespread the problem is. These statistics also demonstrate the importance of maintaining the correct conditions which renders a source of heating essential during the winter months.

What should I do following a heating failure?

So, what happens when your heating system is no longer up to the task or breaks down completely? An absence of suitable climate control could jeopardise output and the efficiency with which your staff work, which is a completely undesirable scenario for any business. A solution should therefore be sought as quickly as possible – and it’s easier than you think.
