When Charlton Athletics experienced grounds man and former player Colin Powell noticed some problems with the grass growth in one corner of the Valley pitch, he knew that the problem was due to lack of air flow. This is a problem that often occurs in modern wrap around stadiums, where air flow at pitch level is restricted. Having Andrews Sykes as the official club sponsor, Colin knew that a solution would be found. After visiting the stadium and talking to the pitch experts, the Andrews engineers recommended the positioning of two ventilation fans in the problem area.

Queen Celebrates National Theatres 50th Birthday in Comfort

The National Theatre is celebrating its 50^th birthday today. The venue opened on 22^nd October 1963 under the eye of founder Sir Lawrence Olivier. To mark this event, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will be taking a grand tour of the theatre and its facilities. The royal visitors will unveil a plaque to commemorate the theatres anniversary. The venue has recently undergone a large refurbishment but unfortunately the permanent boilers are not yet up and running. Therefore Andrews Heat for Hire supplied the site with 160 oil filled radiators to keep the whole building warm, from the reception areas to the store rooms and even the main gallery.

Andrews Sykes Collaborates with Exciting New Drama The Tunnel!

The first episode of brand new Sky Atlantic drama The Tunnel was aired on Wednesday. Andrews Heat for Hire was on set during filming, providing the film crew with heating while shooting scenes in an old science lab. There are high hopes surrounding the series as the production company is highly acclaimed, receiving many awards for previous television series aired on Sky Atlantic and the BBC. The companies’ previous television productions received excellent reviews from The Guardian, Daily Telegraph and The Mail on Sunday so high expectations are set for the beginning of The Tunnel.

A leading UK newspaper has warned that the nation will grind to a halt in upcoming freezing weather conditions. Weather forecasters have predicted that this will be the worst winter for 100 years. Temperatures are going to drop radically during the next few days and will even be close to freezing. The Met Office has warned about the heavy rain that is due to hit this weekend, particularly in the South of England.

Severe storms are already thought to have caused the deaths of two people in Wiltshire yesterday as a man spun off the road in a Jeep during wet conditions. The bad weather also led to ferry delays at Dover and Calais and several tons of scaffolding collapsed in Great Yarmouth. This month a number of determined Andrews Sykes Hire staff have been taking part in ‘Stoptober,’ a brilliant national campaign that aims to encourage smokers to quit the habit for the entire month of October. The campaign supports the principal that if you quit for 4 weeks, you are five times more likely to quit for good. The Charlton Athletic Community Trust who supports the campaign, recently sent two of their advisers to a Andrews Sykes London depot in order to inspire members of the team to actively take part in ‘Stoptober.’

Charlton Athletic, who are sponsored by Andrews Sykes played host to a different type of fan last Sunday morning. David Beckham was in attendance at the CAFC training ground to watch his son Brooklyn debut for a Queens Park Rangers Academy team that played against Charlton’s U14 team. Although a cracking game of football was in progress, Beckham senior stole the spotlight with parents and players equally excited by the presence of the former England Skipper. Former Chelsea star Denis Wise was also In attendance to watch his son play in the same team as Beckham’s, however the proud fathers could not help the result as the young Addicks defeated QPR two goals to nil.

Ventilation Blast for Steel Manufacturer

A global steel producer urgently needed the help of Andrews Sykes recently. Valuable time was being wasted trying to cool their furnace from a sweltering 875°C down to a bearable 30°C. It was taking several days to lower the temperature, preventing it from being safe enough for people to work inside during the plant’s shut down period.

Our industrial services experts from Andrews Ventilation Hire recommended the use of a FV300, a robust ventilation extraction fan. This fan can be used in a range of environments, is fully portable and has a very high capacity. It was used with ducting to force the hot air out of hatches at each end of the furnace.
