Environmental Management

A leading waste and environmental management contractor wanted a fast response to a problem at two landfill sites. Leachate is formed by rainfall filtering through refuse, creating unpleasant smells and toxic liquid. Lagoons collect the water, with bacteria breaking down the toxicity. However, ambient temperature drops had killed the bacteria. Andrews installed a separate heat exchanger with larger bore passages to reduce clogging. The boiler primary circuit fed the primary side of the exchanger and returned water to the boiler for reheating. The secondary side of the exchanger was fed by pumps from the lagoon and returned heated water back to the lagoon. Hire continued without incident and to the total satisfaction of the client, until a permanent system was installed.
