Building FM

When a TV station was relocating to a new Midlands site, the existing chillers were having problems with using canal water that blocked the filters, and the return water temperature was too high. Andrews was asked by the building’s facilities management provider to supply temporary chillers. Three powerful 500kW units were positioned outside the building and connected using wire armoured pipe to a main connection point. The installation was completed to the complete satisfaction of the customer and continued to operate faultlessly while the filtration system was overhauled.
 

Protecting Products in Healthcare

For several years, a major healthcare business hired cooling equipment from other companies with limited success: external air handling units (AHUs) that pre-chilled air before it entered a warehouse. Once the ambient temperature rose above 30°C these units struggled to achieve the desired temperature so expensive products had to be destroyed. The business realised the answer was internal AHUs to re-circulate air in the warehouse but the nature of its racking appeared to make this impossible. After a survey, Andrews supplied two 200kW chillers and eight slim-line 50kW AHUs, able to work inside the warehouse despite space restrictions. The result: a cool warehouse and no product wastage.
 

Services - Defence

When a defence sector client of the UK services arm of a major multinational needed reliable temporary cooling during the 16-week refit of a mission-critical data centre, Andrews provided the solution. With 500kW of power required, Andrews split the centre into four zones with independent cooling circuits, each with 100% standby capabilities: three 100kW chillers and one 200kW unit, providing chilled water to 50kW internal air handlers, plus audible alarms and volt-free contacts to seamlessly connect the chillers with the Building Management System. The solution worked brilliantly, leading to more hire contracts at the site.
 

TV Broadcasting

Andrews Chillers won a six-week contract to cover replacement of two 750kW chillers at a major media and TV company in Scotland. The chillers provided air conditioning to an area critical to broadcast operations - no downtime was possible. Andrews provided a detailed plan including possible risks; once the client was satisfied, Andrews installed three 550kW chillers including all electrical cables, temporary pipework and fittings. Using existing connection points and service valves, the old chillers were isolated and Andrews' chillers came online with no downtime caused. This successful project led to further talks with the TV company on providing a similar system in London.
